Ultra-Light Glider!
Following the
incredible success of the first version Yeti, Gin Gliders is now launching
the new Yeti. Same concept : ultra-light, compact and easy.
For several seasons Gin Gliders has been working towards developing lighter
weight designs for all models in the GIN range but also developing specific
materials with its suppliers.
The Yeti 08 is the result of these developments and improvements. Gin's
main objectives were to produce a lighter glider with easier handling.
Easy: an impressive
inflation and launch
The experience
of moutaineering shows that a mountain glider must be easy to use.
Manageable whilst handling on the ground, easy to launch, and easy to
fly.
The Yeti 08 is a very lightweight version of the Bolero 3. Hence the safety
aspect and in-flight performance are much like that of a LTF1 glider,
but with more speed and more dynamic handling.
In flight, the biggest advantage over the previous version is improved
performance, this is a glider which is more compact, more precise and
more efficient thermalling.
The Bolero 3 has very easy launch characteristics : it does not overfly
and puts the pilot in charge immediately. These two characteristics are
a must for any mountaineering glider. The Yeti retains these but its ultra-light
weight makes inflation even better ! To enable take-off from steep slopes
or snow, attachment points have been added to the top surface to connect
the glider to the ground.
Light Materials,
Advanced Technology
The Yeti is
built with 2 fabrics (100% Skytex by Porcher) :
The new Skytex 27, this PA 6.6 high tenacity, 22 dtex ripstop
fabric is the ultra-light Porcher fabric (27 g/sqm) designed for paragliding.
Gin is using it for the main top and bottom section.
The 9017 E68A, used exclusively by Gin Gliders (36 g/sqm), is
a PA 6.6 high tenacity 33 dtex. Gin has 5 years experience of
using this light fabric, and is delighted with the results for its longevity
and strength. This is why Gin chooses to use it in the ribs and leading
edge sections.
Lines are heat
treated and pre-stretched from LIROS. Risers are constructed from a new
12 mm Aramid webbing for easier ground handling than on the previous light
risers.
All other materials used in the construction - tapes, reinforcements and
connectors etc. are chosen to achieve the highest performance to weight
ratio possible.
The Yeti is
hand made, with each unit assembled by one person. This requires many
hours in manufacturing, concentrating on every detail to achieve a beautifully
crafted glider.
Result = 2.9
kg !
This combination of design, technology, manufacturing and materials makes
an ultra-easy, ultra-light paraglider which is able to fly efficiently
in thermals.
2.9 kg for the smallest size (19 sqm) to 4.6 kg for the largest size.
The Yeti comes in 6 sizes - from a 19 sqm glider for moutaineering experts
to 5 other certified sizes from 45 kg to 105 kg pilot weight !
Objective:
4 kg, ready to fly...
The objective is to offer a total equipment weight (wing, rucksack, harness
and carabiners) of 4 kg (for the smallest size) to fly down the mountain
safely and effectively.
There are 3
options for the Yeti:
- YETI + ULTRA-LIGHT BAG
- YETI + CONVERTIBLE ULTRA-LIGHT HARNESS
- YETI + ULTRA-LIGHT HARNESS + ALPINE LIGHT BAG
